"The northern lights trapped in stone, guided by a rune — worn as a compass for the road ahead."

Origin

The Stone

A raw piece of labradorite, its surface crossed by broad bands of blue, green, gold and violet — the same colors that dance across the arctic sky. This is labradorescence: light caught between the stone's internal layers, released only when the angle is right, a flash of aurora held captive in mineral.

"The Inuit believed labradorite was fallen aurora — light that had struck the rocks along the Labrador coast and been trapped there. This piece carries that old story in every flash.

Left in its natural freeform shape, the stone keeps its rough, unpolished edges — a reminder that it came from the earth, not from a cutting wheel. The face is polished to bring out the flash; the sides are raw. No two labradorite stones share the same pattern of light.

Wrapped in an organic frame of oxidized silver that looks like molten metal caught mid-flow, and crowned with a Vegvisir — the Icelandic runic compass said to guide travelers through storms — the pendant is a talisman as much as a piece of jewelry: rough, luminous, protective.

The Making

Detail 01

Labradorite Flash

Broad bands of blue, teal, gold and violet sweep across the polished face — labradorescence, born from light refracting between the stone's internal layers. Turn the pendant and the colors shift: one moment deep blue, the next green fire, the next violet glow.

Molten Silver Frame

An organic frame of oxidized silver wraps the stone like roots or cooled lava — rough and pitted in the recesses, bright and polished on the high edges. The silver flows around the stone's irregular shape, gripping it with claw-like points, never perfectly symmetrical, always intentional.

Detail 03

Vegvisir Rune Bail

The bail is engraved with a Vegvisir — the Icelandic runic compass, eight staves radiating from a center, said to ensure that the wearer never loses their way in storms. The symbol is carved into oxidized silver, the recesses black, the lines bright, ancient and clear.

In Context

On Volcanic Rock & Moss

Laid on black porous volcanic rock among bright green moss — the stone's flash against the dark earth, silver against living green.

02/04 Pendant hanging on driftwood with rusted chain

On Driftwood & Rust

Hung from weathered driftwood beside a rusted iron chain — silver and stone among things that have endured salt, wind and time.

03/04 Pendant on wet black slate with water reflection and fallen leaves

On Wet Slate & Water

Resting on glistening black slate above a still pool — the labradorite's flash mirrored in the water, fallen leaves scattered around.

04/04 Pendant on rolled vintage brown leather with brass buttons

On Vintage Leather

Draped over rolled vintage leather beside antique brass buttons — the pendant's rough silver and flash belonging to a traveler's kit, old and well-used.
